Hi, sorry for getting this up so late. For our project we held a Cancer Awareness Week at our high school and junior high. We made posters with cancer facts and hung them all over the school. We also held an essay and art contest with the broad subject of cancer. One student made an awesome collage of pictures of one of our students who has been diagnosed with cancer- it was really well put together. During lunch we also held a Cancer Awareness trivia game. We compiled a list of about 50 questions (some were hard and others were easy) about cancer and asked students to participate; this is where our project lost steam. Not very many of our students were as participative as we would have liked, but we did get some to come up and answer questions. We also served “cancer-fighting-foods” such as whole wheat tortillas with spinach dip or bean hummis on them, strawberries, plums, grapes, and all natural juice. The students really enjoyed tasting the foods (or at least watching their friends gag on the spinach dip). We also gave out prizes to anyone who answered 3 questions right, or managed to swallow the spinach tortillas and keep them down. It was a really interesting project and students who took advantage of the oppurtunities learned a lot. If we do this project again next year we will definately try to increase student participation and have a more well-organized gameshow. I think it would really help if we were able to get an assembly. Anyway, i hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at the_only_ozz@hotmail.com
