She talked with Angie Kuehl, 4-H community worker, and said students had been collecting tabs all year. They had about 30 gallon and would like to donate to this project. Mitchell Rose, a fellow 4-H member, Angie Kuehl, my mom, and I went to the school to receive their collection. All students [127] received ice cream cone certificates.

2-6-07 U of I staff person went to WSIL-TV after the office received a call that a person had drop off about 60 lbs of tab at the station.

2-14-07 Had 4-H meeting and we talked about tab drive, and what we have done to prepare for the Drive. Had the 4-H members help put collection jugs together. Talked about other needs of the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis, Asked if the club was interested in bring in some of the supplies that the house goes through, antibacterial wipes, one serving boxes of cereal, passed around the list but got no response. One mother did want this to pass on to her school she is a teacher and will be talking to her children in her class about childhood cancer, as well as the high school in Herrin. Talked to our cousin in a school in Vergennes. She has talked to the principal and the elementary school as well as the Jr. High. Vergennes will participate in the tab drive.

2-16-07 Called McDonald’s area rep and she has 350 houses so we can at least start getting the houses into the schools, with flyers. Also DuQuoin Eagles have called and would like for us to come and pick up the 25 gallons that they have saved, they need a thank you letter for the tabs, we wrote up a letter so it could be used for any other club, organizations when they call to let us know they have some cans/tabs for us to pick up.
2-17-07 My sister Olivia and I spent 2 hrs popping tabs off of cans.
2-19-07 Received call today from Karco, 300 lbs to 500 lbs $.02 more a pound. More than 500 lbs. is $.04 a pound. We will try to weight here to see if we are close, our fear is that prices will drop and we will lose money if we don’t cash in what we have collected this far. I hope to go to Karco in the next day or two to turn in the cans for more money to raise more money for the Ronald McDonald House.
2-20-07 Called schools again, I think would work out better if I had a packet to drop off to them, which we are working on.
2-24-07 Went to Karco for a cash in of tabs and cans we had received. We had 258 lbs of clean aluminum and 79 lbs of aluminum cans. Equaling $235.90 and $23.13 collected from the collection containers at Karco and 1st Bank And Trust. So a Total of $259.03 was deposited.
